Making A Run For The Sun In 2011

With the chilly miserable weather continuing, I’m planning my next year’s vacation with a mind to getting some sunshine. Winter is no longer the predictably mild affair it used to be, so I’m putting my eggs into the summer holiday basket rather than chancing an expensive and uncomfortable stay on an airport floor.

Orlando holidays are always a popular choice as there are hundreds of excellent attractions to see. There are obviously the huge theme parks such as Disney World, this will keep the kids occupied all day as they explore the massive resort, although there’s a lot for adults to see and do here as well. As well as Disney, there are other theme parks that offer tours and attractions in addition to white-knuckle roller coaster rides.

The recent headlines about problems at airports may make you wonder about flights to Orlando, but there’s a tight schedule that has to be followed in the warmer months and there are seldom problems with the slights out during spring and summer. Once over the Atlantic, you have a variety of US airports to choose from so in case of disruption there’s always a point to land and transfer to your destination. Plus the winter weather in Florida is usually about 20 degrees or more, so you are guaranteed to get some reprieve from the December chill.

If you’d like to take a break from the normal package options, you can strike out on your own with a fly drive holiday that lets you travel to wherever you want. For the really adventurous, you could spend a few days seeing the sights in Florida, then book a cruise or a flight, turning quick Orlando breaks into luxury holidays Caribbean style, with cruises around the Caribbean islands such as Antigua, Barbados or Bermuda. Having Florida as your base gives you the perfect starting and end-point to a truly memorable and sun-drenched holiday on the other side of the Atlantic, where the snow and the cold will be a distant memory.
